Montfort Sports Excellence Programme (MSPEX)
Why Are We Starting MSPEX?
Montfort schools have always placed a strong emphasis on sports. Beyond developing skilled athletes, sport provides an important platform for nurturing our school values and shaping the character of our students.
Both Montfort Junior School and Montfort Secondary School have a strong track record of developing student athletes who have progressed to play their sport at higher levels.
The Montfort Sports Excellence Programme (MSPEX) was established to build on this tradition by providing a structured and purposeful pathway for the development of our young sportsmen.
What Is MSPEX All About?
MSPEX is a comprehensive sporting excellence programme that seeks to develop our sportsmen through a holistic and broad-based approach.
The programme develops student athletes in an age appropriate and developmentally sound manner, guided by key principles of elite athlete development.
At the Junior School level, students are first given broad-based exposure to a wide variety of sports. This allows every student to build strong sporting foundations and discover their interests and strengths.
Based on their interest and aptitude, students may then pursue their chosen sport at a higher level. As they progress, student athletes will be systematically developed and provided with opportunities to deepen their training and participation with greater confidence and competence.
A Seamless 10 Year Montfort Sporting Journey
Research shows that developing sporting expertise takes time.
It takes approximately
• 10 years for a talented athlete to achieve a certain level of expertise
• 8 to 12 years to reach elite levels
• 13 to 15 years to excel at the international level
MSPEX taps on the unique partnership between our Junior and Secondary schools to provide a One Montfort experience.
Through this collaboration, students benefit from 10 years of seamless training and development opportunities, guided by a shared philosophy and common approach to sports development.
Our Sports Development Framework
The MSPEX programme adopts the Long Term Athlete Development Model as the guiding approach for athlete development.

Key Areas of Focus

Understanding how proper nutrition supports training and performance.
Fitness and Strength Conditioning
Developing strength, endurance and overall physical fitness.
Biomechanics and Performance Analytics

Values, Ethics and Leadership
Instilling strong character, sportsmanship and leadership.
While all six areas are available to all sports teams, the specific modules will be delivered at appropriate stages and levels of complexity, as determined by the programme manager, teachers and coaches. These modules may also be offered to individual athletes where appropriate.
In addition, activities such as Master Classes, Sports Leader Camps and motivational talks by alumni and sports personalities will be organised.
It Takes a Community to Nurture Our Sportsmen
Developing our young Montfortians into sportsmen par excellence requires the support of a strong community.
The MSPEX programme is supported by an Advisory Council comprising experts from academia, sports, coaching, business and organizational leadership. Our teachers and coaches work closely together to monitor and implement the programme.
Most importantly, the continued partnership and support of parents play a vital role in the success of MSPEX.
Together, we nurture our young Montfortians to become the very best that they can be.
Age Quod Agis.
Do well whatever you do.
